Northern Copper Mine Water Treatment

Background

An orphaned copper mine, connected to the surrounding watershed, requires annual water quality treatment to ensure a breach of contaminated water into the environment does not occur.

Approach

In this case, the contaminated water on-site is treated using three systems: a permanent system, portable system and the BNR. The BNR can be scaled depending on the desired treatment volumes, and treats water in one chamber instead of requiring a large scale operation. The treated water is directed into settling ponds where water is decanted to the environment within water quality regulatory limits.
